Any alternatives to the nasal aspirator for infants with a cold?

My 10 old son has come down with a cold and hates the nasal aspirator. Both my husband and I have to wrestle with him to get it into his nose. He does not like having anyone touching his face, even if its to wipe food off is mouth. Does anyone know of another painless and less frustrating method?

My daughter has had a runny nose since a few weeks after birth. She hates the nasal aspirator too, but recently she got sick with bronchitis and even the aspirator wasn’t helping. I rubbed a little baby vix on her chest to help clear her nasal passages then I turned on the shower in the bathroom and let the bathroom fill with steam, this helped her nose clear out a lot of mucus and she didn’t choke on it in her sleep anymore. The steam also eased her cough a lot. I did the steam treatment every other night right before bed time, and the vix three times a day on her chest and back. Sometimes it made her nose run more, but I was able to just wipe that away (she fought that too, but not as hard as she fights the nasal aspirator). Good luck!
